FAMILY RATES

Family travel can be some of the most joyful and cherished experiences of our lives. Perhaps you can remember how a journey somewhere helped shape your own life, or helped create memories and understanding and love among family members. I know that holds true for many of us at CAS. But if you've ever traveled with your family to some of the world's wild places, you already know that there is no experience that brings people closer together. There's a real thrill that accompanies discovering wildlife and meeting people from different cultures in a friendly, easy way. That's the kind of atmosphere we try to create for families on all of our tours. Please, call for special family rates.

HELP US EARN MONEY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND CONSERVATION

If  dates for CAS tours do not work for you, or if there is a tour that you are looking for but do not see listed, we are able to provide you with many natural history destinations through our contacts with the for-profit travel industry. These companies will make a donation to our education programs when you sign up for one of their tours through us.  Call us to book!

Please call or send an email to learn more about these extensive offerings or to make an appointment to visit our EcoTravel Office in Essex, CT.

SWALLOW SPECTACLE CRUISE
September 5 to 30, 2010    EVENINGS!
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays!

Reserve early for one of our most popular events!

On the Connecticut River, we are lucky enough to be able to witness two spectacular avian happenings almost from our office window. The first of the year is the spectacular concentration of eagles that join us to over-winter on the Connecticut River. The other highlight of the birding year on the river is the Tree Swallow concentration that can be found each September and October. During fall migration, hundreds of thousands of swallows congregate on the lower Connecticut River and at sunset settle in on a giant communal roost. The birds come from as far away as 30 miles and converge at dusk, often creating a “ballet” and “funnel” of birds before and as they settle down to roost. The renowned ornithologist and artist Roger Tory Peterson wrote, “I have seen a million flamingos on the lakes of East Africa and as many seabirds on the cliffs of the Alaska Pribilofs, but for sheer drama, the tornadoes of Tree Swallows eclipsed any other avian spectacle I have ever seen.” Join CAS naturalists as they cruise down river to see the spectacular display. Bring a picnic supper and your favorite beverage to enjoy on the cruise, and your binoculars. A truly awe inspiring display! If you only take one trip with EcoTravel this fall, make sure it’s this one! Fee: $40.

Please call us about small private charters (up to 6 people) for this event as well.

UCONN Greenhouse and Campus Tree ID

MONHEGAN ISLAND

Fall Migration Hotspot

September 23 - 26, 2010     4 Days!     Two Spots Left!

Join Leader Joe Bear on a relaxing tour of Monhegan Island at the height of the migration season. Monhegan, off the coast of Maine, serves as a stopover point for birds caught out over open water. They drop onto the island to eat and rest for the day. Because there are no roads and no cars on the island, participants hike the many walking trails while searching for what arrived overnight. Nature and beauty are at their apex on Monhegan in the fall. Stay at the most lovely island inn and don’t miss the blueberry pie! Limited to seven participants per group, so call early to sign up.

Fee: $925.

BLOCK ISLAND WEEKEND!

Annual Migration Destination

October 1 - 3, 2010     3 Days!     Wait List Only!

October 8 - 10, 2010     3 Days!    Six Spots Left!

Or Schedule a Private Tour!

A “Connecticut Top-20 Bird Species” Tour!

Explore the wilds of Block Island after most of the summer tourists have left the beaches and town. Often a magnet for wayward birds, “Block” will delight travelers with its island architecture, wild flowers, and natural beauty. Migration is at its peak, so expect to see lots of birds when the winds cooperate like they did in 2007, carrying to the island thousands of warblers, rare sparrows, and vagrants, including a Western Kingbird! Experienced leaders will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for this special place as participants visit the bluffs, lighthouses, back roads, beautiful beaches, and serene harbors. Group size is limited for the best travel experience. Fee: $585. This is a trip many travelers make with us year after year!

Four times the width of Niagara Falls, Iguacu Falls are divided by various islands into separate waterfalls; a perpetual veil of spray draped high over the falls. Not to be missed!

Nick Bonomo has been birding New England since the age of 16. He graduated from Stonehill College with a degree in Biology in May of 2006. In autumn 2007, he began attending Yale University from which he recently graduated as a Physician Assistant. Despite his rigorous career schedule, Nick has escaped to bird such locations as Nova Scotia, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Costa Rica, eastern Australia, and New Zealand. He currently lives in Connecticut and can often be found birding the New Haven County coast in his spare time. His interest in bird identification, status, and distribution makes him a skillful leader, and his youthful enthusiasm is matched by few.

CLASSIC TANZANIA SAFARI
January 10 - 22, 2011 13 Days!

We have planned our visit during the best time to view the animals of the Serengeti. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and other predators are especially visible during this time. We'll also visit Ngorongoro Crater, described as the eighth wonder of the world, Lake Manyara National Park in the Great Rift Valley, and Olduvai Gorge, where Richard and Mary Leakey made their famous archeological discoveries of early hominids. This is a bird and mammal focused tour. We have always belived that if you are looking for the birds, you cannot miss the rhino. Travelers will be accompanied by Milan Bull, CAS Senior Director of Science and Conservation. Miley has led trips across the globe for many years.

Fee: $4,695.
